“Gold is the New Silver.”

A quote from New York designer Robert Couturier.

Here Frederic Fekkai’s gold dining room designed by Courturier. And inspiration in the use of this fine hue. I love the depth this shade of gold brings to the space. The silver pedestal table is so cool, and brings out the warmth of the rest of the room.

Who wouldn’t love this? A Barbara Barry cabinet in gold leaf. Found at Elle Decor.

A delicate mix of neutral tones with metallics in this contemporary bedroom. The throw pillows feature gold embroidery.

Love the gold touches in this room: the coffee table, the striped chair, pillows, curtains, and decorative pieces on shelves and table all give a rich yet soothing feel to this bright room.

Gold frames are perfection in this silver gray and white room. Gold is perfect in the bedroom I feel.

Lighting Made in America

Following my infatuation with lamps and lighting of late, and the ever present search for things made in America, I was pleased to come across this Elle Decor article on these two subjects combined.

Jason Miller, a Brooklyn based designer, has found Roll & Hill, a contemporary lighting manufacturing company, which sells unique lamps and light fixtures that are made in the USA. Love this Halo pendant lamp by Paul Loebach. Great for over a contemporary table or island kitchen. Here are a few other inspiring designs:

Reclaimed Wood Tables

I find these natural wood tables so inspiring. Why not add a piece to your unique apartment to add a homey cottage-like feel. This wood table is made of 1800s wood beams and can be found at Unite Two Designs.

At some cabin fever to your environment. This piece is precious. Reclaimed wood coffee table available at  The Carolina Cabin Store.

This sideboard table is classic and elegant, as well as rustic in its appeal. Look for it at Woodland Creed Furniture.

Dare to go this edgy? I mean literally, this solid 5 ft. pine sofa table is made of reclaimed wood from a barn and the edges sport the results of its long life being chewed by horses!! Such a cool story. Refinished in a deep cognac color, and can be found at Cottage Home Furniture.

Bedroom inspiration from The Crosby Street Hotel

I once read an article (can’t remember where now) about how to make your bedroom look like a hotel’s. I wondered, why would anyone want that? I mean, I have stayed in some nice hotels (the Venetian in Vegas comes to mind) but still, a hotel is a hotel, right? Why bring that home. Then I found an article about the Crosby Street Hotel in Metropolis magazine. This incredible artistically unchallenged place to stay in SoHo, New York City is a model of color, texture and pattern. The British husband and wife team Tim and Kit Kemp, owners of London’s Firmdale Hotels, opened this 11 story gem in 2010. The whole atmosphere is eclectic and unique, but I found focus in the bedroom designs, engineered by Kit’s wonderful talents, each themed with color and pattern that could be incorporated in any apartment bedroom space.

Celebrity Realestate: Liz Taylor’s Bel-Air Home

Liz Taylor’s Bel-Air house is on the market for $8.6 million. The iconic actress passed away in March at the age of 79. She bought this home in 1981.

In Bel-Air, California, this house is 7,000 square feet on a guard gated 1.27 acres. With four bedrooms, a master suite, fireplaces in all sitting rooms and dining room, all with access to the outdoor pool terrace, this home sounds dreamy. Spawling gardens and lawn complete the picture. Did I mention it has an arbor and hothouse for orchids?

Qualified buyers only get to see the place, so we folk have to settle for pics. Oh, well….More here

Fresh Summer and Yellow Decor

Yellow can be a neutral shade to add to a soft inviting apartment space. It speaks of summer and warm days. In winter, if you live in cold climate areas, yellow interiors will brighten spirits, relieve depression and make one feel uplifted on otherwise dreary days. When the sun shines in, yellow highlights in furniture, walls, or decorative pieces will enhance emotions and bring comfort.

Soft petal pale yellow walls add warmth to a neutral space.

Hampton Yellow Quilt found at Linens-n-More.

Yellow vases add a bright touch anywhere.
