I Dream of Laundry Rooms

Okay, maybe I don’t actually dream about a laundry room…but who wouldn’t desire a large, functional, and beautifully designed room for doing this necessary chore? Me! Me! If I could have this dream space, it would be a relaxing space as well, where one could even spend time reading in between washes, or blogging perhaps. Oh, to have the room to leave up the ironing board and lay out the fine washables, with enough space to keep everything neat and organized. Here are some more “dream” laundry rooms. Anyone feeling the desire?

Love the cool refreshing color choice here. Nice unified space, with desk area. I found some more with built in desk spaces. Great idea.

Love this one. Feels more like a home office.

One would have to hope that the washer and dryer runs extra quietly. Love the nice sewing space.

Martha Stewart design laundry room.

This dream laundry room features cabinets that hold all appliances, hanging items, ironing board, etc. that will neatly close up when chores are completed. Totally cool. Neat little built in desk space too.

Bright and lovely, a space you’d like to come into even it was to fold some towels. (I actually like folding towels…weird, huh?) Looks like one could step out and relax also, or use the door to come into and shuck off dirty items. A practical yet beautiful mud room. One of my favorite dream laundry rooms.

Restoration Hardware – Baby & Child

Restoration Hardware brings luxury to baby’s room, as well as in bedrooms for young children. These incredible decor designs will make your little prince or princess feel just like that. I love the use of neutrals and softer colors for children’s rooms. I guess the traditionalist might find the rooms a bit bland and lacking in stimulation, but you know, these rooms are for sleeping after all. With all the stimulation from all directions our kids are constantly bombarded with, a nice room of peace to come home to reigns in my decor book. Let me know what you think of some of these other room design options.

Heavenly girl’s room.

Boys and luxury.

Girls bed and bedding with contrasting colors.

The Virgin Renter – Apartments for Rent in Wilkes Barre Pa

Are you renter for the first time and looking for Apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa? Here are some helpful tips for first time virgin renters who are spreading their independence wings with a new apartment of their own.

One of the first things to remember is to never go over your budget with  apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa. Sit down and assess all expenses that you presently have, and all expenses that you will have when you rent your apartment. Most investment professionals recommend that you spend no more than 1/4 of your monthly income on your rent, though I’ve come across recommendations of 1/3. Be sure to include utilities like electricity, cable, internet, and parking fees as well as any other expenses not included in your rent. By staying within budget of your apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa, you will avoid pain and disappointment of having to give up your space, and the dreaded move back home to your old room that your parents were attempting to make into a workout space. (You may have to live with a treadmill for a while.)

Another thing to consider financially is to save up money for your rental application fees, security deposit (which is usually required) and move-in expenses. Some landlords of apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa require the first and last months rent paid at the leases signing, which can add up to quite a large check that you’ll have to write out, all before you can even set one chair in the living room.

Is the cost of apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa a bit too high, but you’ve found one that you simply love with two bedrooms and the huge living room, with hardwood floors and an island kitchen? You may want to consider finding a roommate to help share the expenses. But be sure to follow the advise  in the Sharing Your Place category on the front page of this blog. It covers why have a roommate, roommate questionnaires and agreements, as well as an article on why not to have a roommate and many other things you may not have considered.

Make sure that you thoroughly read the lease for apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa. Then read it again. Be sure that you understand all you obligations completely, and all the rules before signing. Once you signature is there, you are held bound to the contract legally. Have a knowledgeable person help you understand things in the lease that you deem questionable. Sometimes the legal words and writing can be confusing. Ask for help. There’s nothing worse for a renter than being dissatisfied with something and finding out that it was or wasn’t included in the lease you signed.

Be sure to search for new apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa online. Check out ApartmentsToLike.com for listings of available apartments or homes in Wilkes Barre and the surrounding area. Looking for an efficiency? One bedroom? A large or small studio? A certain location? Near college or work? Or a more spacious home for rent? You will find the latest listings and contact information here.

Or, if you are in the market for apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa, stop in and visit The Apartment Finders Shop located in the Wyoming Valley Mall in Wilkes Barre. Fill out a wish list and we’ll help you find a place with potential.  The shop is open Thursday through Sunday.

Finally, always think ahead about references. Have written references ready from friends of family and employees. Landlords and property owners of apartments for rent in Wilkes Barre Pa will often request these character references to be sure that you are a responsible person and will take care of the apartment leased to you. It is also important, if you are under a certain age, to have a co-signer available for your lease. A parent, family member or other friend or relative can do this, which guarantees the landlord that your rent will be covered should you fail for some reason to pay on time.

All in all, the virgin renter need not fear this huge step in life, but look at it with joy and anticipation.  It can be quite an exhilarating learning experience, and with the right thought and preparation, a successful one.

There’s nothing better than adding a touch of color, pattern or excitement to an otherwise dull sofa, loveseat or chair in your home. Even if you’re still in love with your seating options, they may be lacking that certain something that once attracted you to them.

The good news is that you don’t have to break the bank to find great throw pillows that can really cheer up your space.

Loft Love – Barbara Littman’s Chelsea Loft

Bright and spacious, I’ve found loft love in interior designer, Barbara Littman’s loft in Chelsea, New York. What is inspiring too, is this 69 year old mother of three with six grandchildren, who hasn’t nestled herself into some comfy little cottage-like atmosphere, but is spreading her wings instead of folding them. She went for a master’s degree in architecture in her 50s. Now that’s encouragement. A woman still on the move, Littman teaches interior and furniture design at Kean University in New Jersey and also at the NJ Institute of Technology.

She purchased this loft in 2009 for just under $4 Million. After two years of renovation, $190,000 to revamp to her taste, and with the aid of New York architect Robert D. Henry, Littman now has the space of her dreams.

What she says of her newly renovated loft space: “When I look out the window, I just love being part of the city. It’s the energy here that’s always been something for me.”

More of this loft at Loftenberg.

Crazy for Crazy Lamps

Looking to add some interest in your apartment space? Why not go crazy with crazy lamps? Lamps are an easy decor choice to spruce up your place and make it artistic and fun. This bicycle handle bar lamp would be a great piece in a modern or vintage apartment.

Strangeness has no bounds with this Indian motorcycle head lamp as a cool desk lamp. Fun.

Add this unusual pipe table lamp to your side table and wait for the conversation to flow. No pun inteneded.

A lamp that falls into the table instead of off the table. Unique and cute in any spot.

Daedalus table lamp will add a soft light in a dark corner, and add a bit of eclectic taste to your decor. Might be cool in a bedroom.

Crazy, yet elegant, a lamp made from polished stones for a modern or shabby chic designed room. Love the soft colors.

Finally, I was so attracted to this twisted grapevine floor lamp. Sure to get attention, add useful light, and bring an element of nature into your room’s decor. Love it in this white on white space.

Crazy for crazy lamps!

Manly pursuits...

Certain things bring out the male in me – and it's not always the things you'd expect. At the recent House of Fraser Autumn/Winter '12 show I drooled at the rather masculine Kenneth Cole display with a black leather 'Lincoln' sofa at it's heart. I'm not usually so man-ish in my tastes but in such a setting, this furniture is perfect.
