Kids Room of the Week

Love the vintage touches and beautiful use of space. I was attracted to the orange highlights too. Great for this month!

College dorm rooms can look beautiful…a great post full of cool ideas!

capriciously inspired

It’s no secret that I would give anything to be back in college. Vanderbilt specifically. I had the most amazing four years in Nashville and I can’t imagine having spent it any other way. While I put in a little effort with my bedding every year, I definitely wish I could have another try at tackling the cement block walls and sad looking wood beds. Here are some back to school essentials to make your dorm room the one everyone’s talking about:

Extra long twin-set, please!

A bedskirt?! Why/how did I not think of that?

These pom pom pillows are adorable

For the more sophisticated college girl!

I just don’t know what it is. I am not a pink girl but my freshman year dorm room claimed otherwise:

Tying your curtains up with mismatched hair ribbons? I tried. Also, the desk chair. That desk chair.

Unique Bedrooms for Teen Girls

I’ve been on a search for unique bedroom design ideas for teen girls. Once a young lady reaches a certain age, the old pink fluffy stuff hits the donation bags. Gone forever in sight, but hopefully not in mind and heart, are the little girl things that kept us safe and comfortable. A teen needs to express herself, and indulge in some luxury in her own created space. A long the way I’ve found some great little touches, unique color choices, and subtle yet expressive ways to upgrade the young girl room into a young adult haven.

I love the wall paper design above, and the purple, chartreuse, and blue color combination. The standing full length mirror (what girl doesn’t need one?) is a nice touch.

The transition from pre-teen to teen decor can be accomplished with a few simple design changes. A fresh new carpet, new bedding to match, and new window treatments will re-invent this teen’s space. Love the Japanese theme, and again the standing full-length mirror.

Still stay soft and girl-like, but get rid of the stuffed-animals. Love the soft yet colorful bedroom featured here.

Betsy Johnson would be proud! For a girl with some zest and daring this bright zebra print room is loaded with style and charisma. Black and white and pink is always fun.

For the young woman who love a fresh and clean style, with a bit of a vintage touch. I love the fluffy shag carpets on top of carpets and the creative chandelier makes a nice statement. Creating a unique teen bedroom can be a fun decor challenge.

Kids Room Design – Boys!

A boys room can be difficult to design with functionality and neatness in mind. This example of a small bedroom converted to a great younger boys room I think is awesome. The lower bunk is made into a personal play area, which keeps the room clutter free (with use of the curtain!) and will give the young one his own space to play.

The tween and teen boy would love this arrangement with cool design features using khaki and army fatigue colors and patterns. Useful storage bins under bed and on shelving add organization and neatness to the space. Love the skateboard featured as art.

Another great example of a themed room: hockey. Love the enlarged framed photograph on wall, and what kid doesn’t love bean bag chair? Hockey sticks and equipment are displayed artfully.

A perfect simple boys room that can be easily transferred to a dorm room from Ikea catalogue page. Great and inexpensive ideas here.

Kids’ Room Design – Girls!

Making a girl’s room into a fun, playful environment that she’ll love can be a perplexing task. Believe me, I’ve been through it with two of my own. And I wish I went with some of these design options, like this room with fairy-tale quality to it.  The massive crib of course can be easy changed to a day bed, of twin bed. Love the color choices in this room, subtle yet bright.

So letting your kids go this far may be difficult but consider how easy it is to be creative using wall stickers.  Your child’s favorite cartoon characters can be the crazy and fun way to allow her to express herself.  These stickers are affordable and easy to place and remover.

Don’t forger color is a child’s room. This stylish kid’s room features an unusual palette of green and sherbet orange…quite unique.

The pink girl’s room is a thing of the past, well, maybe not completely, but this subtle color palette of pink, pale green, and white give this space a fresh and stylish feel, so beyond the pink comforter and curtains.

But if you must think pink, this room creation in light red painted walls and furniture is a perfect tween expression.  Love the modern feel and the built in look of the desk and drawers which make this small space pretty as well as functional.
