Kids Room of the Week

Love the vintage touches and beautiful use of space. I was attracted to the orange highlights too. Great for this month!

College dorm rooms can look beautiful…a great post full of cool ideas!

capriciously inspired

It’s no secret that I would give anything to be back in college. Vanderbilt specifically. I had the most amazing four years in Nashville and I can’t imagine having spent it any other way. While I put in a little effort with my bedding every year, I definitely wish I could have another try at tackling the cement block walls and sad looking wood beds. Here are some back to school essentials to make your dorm room the one everyone’s talking about:

Extra long twin-set, please!

A bedskirt?! Why/how did I not think of that?

These pom pom pillows are adorable

For the more sophisticated college girl!

I just don’t know what it is. I am not a pink girl but my freshman year dorm room claimed otherwise:

Tying your curtains up with mismatched hair ribbons? I tried. Also, the desk chair. That desk chair.

Color the walls activity fun for a happy abode

Oh man, I want to be a kid again and beg my parents for this! Never mind, I think I want it now!

weberlifedesignspeaks.com

As spring enters it brings with it the anticipation of the brighter days to come. The flowers start to bloom with exciting colors. This is the time of year to have fun with the decor, emulating the beautiful color fun that we see outside.

What better way to have a good time with color than to take out the crayons and magic markers and get lost in coloring fun.

  • The guilty pleasures of a coloring book are evident as adults use the children in their lives to steal moments to take the crayons out and join in the coloring fun. Young children express themselves in color with their imaginative drawings.

The walls in the abode are blank canvases ready to be colored in. Now you can literally color in your walls with the help of some cool wall coverings.

Great ideas here! What a nice job they did!

Embracing the Mundane

We finally finished our family workspace.  Well, I still need to add plants to my pots and tame the wire mess, but other than that: done!  Robert and I tossed around about 2 million ideas on this one.  In the end, we found something that we could accomplish fairly easily without braking the bank that is fun to look at and fun to work in.  It did turn out to be much more work than anticipated (what isn’t, right?) and took way longer than planned.  But we learned a ton and our marriage survived! : D

Before

I spent some time back in Sept organizing our files and office “stuff”, but that folding table sure wasn’t pretty or big enough to meet our needs.

After

This actually is the eat-in area of our kitchen, but we have an island with stools as well and we eat our dinners at our…

American Made!!

For more than thirty years Room and Board has focused on unique designs to make your apartment or home a beautiful living experience. And what is extra great about this New York company–almost all their featured products are make in the USA! (found gorgeous rugs at their website made in India, but that’s okay…I love Indian rugs!) This company has established bonds with artisans in the area to make great quality furniture, helping to reduce environmental impact by staying close home, and a plus of supporting a a business in local community.
Room and Board covers all your apartment room needs, from the Clark sofa above, among the many other choices for living rooms, to this Ellis desk for your home office or study space. Truly unique. And all furnishing come in a variety of color and wood choices.
A favorite piece, this Bella mirror, in the accessories area where you can order mirrors by the inch. Many colors and framing choices, and leaning mirrors too.
Another unique piece with a retro look that I love, the Grove media cabinet.
And for those with young ones, don’t miss the kids area for fun and wondrous kid’s room selections, like this Moda bunk bed. Comes in a dark wood too that I really liked.

Media Room Perfection

One of our apartments features a perfect media center, built right in the wall with room for television or flat screen, media players, speakers and various CDs and DVDs.  But not all apartments offer you the opportunity to explore and create a perfect media room. Scanning some of the ideas and options out there can give you a sense of what you’d like your relaxing area to look like. Comfort, of course, is key. And visibility a must.

Great idea for a small room. This media room designed by Cristi Azevedo has built in cabinetry and daybed and couch. George Nelson Saucer lamp. This is by far my favorite room presented here. Send me in some take-out; I’d never want to leave.  photo: Dave Lauridsen.

Fun and cozy! Great media centered room idea for kids, though I can see the adults hopping aboard too.  Central lighting give it depth, and the shelves easy access to everything a kid at heart could need.

Found this artistic set up at Design to Inspire. Vary your artwork choices to your taste. A movie image theme I would personally love. The Godfather, Gone with the Wind, Casablanca, Star Wars, E.T.; you get the idea?

Another kids media room idea. Love the simple lines, and looks easy to keep clean if snacks are served.

Of course, a perfect media room would be one of those theater-like set ups, with reclining chairs and stands for your drinks, and a six to eight foot screen to host your fifteen guests…but not many of us has the space (or the thousands of dollars) for that type of room. Working with the space you have, you can be creative and have fun. And throw down that shag carpet for dancing fun!

Kids’ Room Design – Girls!

Making a girl’s room into a fun, playful environment that she’ll love can be a perplexing task. Believe me, I’ve been through it with two of my own. And I wish I went with some of these design options, like this room with fairy-tale quality to it.  The massive crib of course can be easy changed to a day bed, of twin bed. Love the color choices in this room, subtle yet bright.

So letting your kids go this far may be difficult but consider how easy it is to be creative using wall stickers.  Your child’s favorite cartoon characters can be the crazy and fun way to allow her to express herself.  These stickers are affordable and easy to place and remover.

Don’t forger color is a child’s room. This stylish kid’s room features an unusual palette of green and sherbet orange…quite unique.

The pink girl’s room is a thing of the past, well, maybe not completely, but this subtle color palette of pink, pale green, and white give this space a fresh and stylish feel, so beyond the pink comforter and curtains.

But if you must think pink, this room creation in light red painted walls and furniture is a perfect tween expression.  Love the modern feel and the built in look of the desk and drawers which make this small space pretty as well as functional.
