Celebrity Home-Gwyneth Paltrow’s Home in Los Angeles

Gwyneth Paltrow’s beautiful new Los Angeles home…just gorgeous!

style theories

One of my guilty pleasures is occasionally tuning into TMZ…although it is generally complete trash, last week they actually reported something pretty interesting.  It turns out Gwyneth Paltrow and her adorable husband Chris Martin purchased a spectacular estate in the Mandeville Canyon area of Los Angeles known as The House of Windsor.  I am completely blown away by all of the lovely details in this home concept home, which was designed by Windsor Smith and decorated by designers from Veranda Magazine.  Click here for a 360° tour of each and every inch of this property!

My favorite part of this home is the lovely silver leaf footed bathtub.  The whole dressing room/bathroom area is just stunning.  Which room do you like best?

Charming Celebrity Room

Yes, the charming celebrity room I’m featuring today is a bathroom…but what a unique master bath. It is found in Max Mutchnick’s Beverly Hills tudor mansion (that once belonged to tennis legend Pete Sampras). Mutchnick is writer, and co-creator of the hit series Will & Grace.

This charming master bathroom is a statement of luxury. It features a custom made vanity, a brass stool and an English club chair; all vintage. The clock is from the Associated Press newsroom. The gorgeous glass tiled floor was created by Waterworks.

Hilary Swank’s Manhattan Apartment

For Hilary Swank bigger is not better, and her downtown Manhattan apartment reflects a sense of peace and comfort.  “I feel comforted in smaller spaces. They’re more nurturing,” the actress, who appears in the new holiday movie out this weekend titled New Year’s Eve.  For the comfort she craves she consulted designer Mark Zeff to create her Manhattan living space.  Above, living room decor from Calvin Klein Home, as is most of the apartment’s furnishings.  All photos: Simon Upton  Article: Elle Decor

Bedroom with furnishings from Calvin Klein Home, of course, and featuring vintage lamps and a painting by Carlos Vega.  Says designer Mark Zeff: “I wanted to create a place that would give her a sense of grace and harmony.”  I think he succeeded.  Hilary Swank’s Manhattan apartment is modest, stylish and chic.

What Gwyneth Paltrow can’t live without…

Gwyneth Paltrow, Oscar-winning actress, writer, chef, and creator of the lifestyle website called Goop, shares her interesting shortlist with Elle magazine this month. I found some of the things she loves creative and inspiring.

Madonna’s “Subdued Elegance” in Manhattan

In 2007 images of Madonna’s luxury apartment in Manhattan showed up in Architectural Digest with good reason. It’s stunning. The architect was Stephen Wand and the interior designer was Madonna’s brother Christopher G. Ciccone (uh? the brother who wrote that nasty book a few years ago???…oh, well…). He calls the design “subdued elegance” with its art deco feel. Love this room.

The kitchen is sleek and fresh feeling…more modern than the rest of the apartment.

The office is so simple and elegant. And Yes!! That is a Picasso!
Madonna says: “I love the office because I can use my fax machine and look at my Picasso at the same time.” I would love that too! More pics here

Celebrity Realestate: Liz Taylor’s Bel-Air Home

Liz Taylor’s Bel-Air house is on the market for $8.6 million. The iconic actress passed away in March at the age of 79. She bought this home in 1981.

In Bel-Air, California, this house is 7,000 square feet on a guard gated 1.27 acres. With four bedrooms, a master suite, fireplaces in all sitting rooms and dining room, all with access to the outdoor pool terrace, this home sounds dreamy. Spawling gardens and lawn complete the picture. Did I mention it has an arbor and hothouse for orchids?

Qualified buyers only get to see the place, so we folk have to settle for pics. Oh, well….More here

Frank Sinatra Slept Here

I’m always searching for an interesting celebrity (alive or dead it seems) apartment for an article, and couldn’t resist presenting this find…The fascinating old penthouse on East 72nd Street in New York, formerly owned by Old Blue Eyes himself!  photo credits: Evan Sung for The New York Times

The apartment is being sold by Denton Cox, Sinatra’s former doctor. It was kept pretty much like Sinatra designed it, as you can see in the 60s style kitchen. It was being renovated by the owner, but was never finished.

The closet with original wall paper…still looks pretty good.

Looks like the entrance…

A 2000 square foot terrace on two levels  with a conservatory graces this penthouse. Needs a lot of work. I couldn’t find a price. Curious.

Celebrity Bedrooms

You can get so many ideas from celebrity living spaces for your new apartment. I found these wonderful images at Elle Decor. Taking a few hints and incorporating them into you own bedroom space can give your escape room a personalized feel, welcoming and unique to you.

Above, Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick’s Bridgehampton master bedroom is crisp and fresh with its white theme.  Touches of color in accessories only. Apple-green vintage chairs, a sisal rug, and Ikea curtains.  Designer, Eric Hughes.

Cindy Crawford had decorator Michael S. Smith help design her Malibu home which she shares with husband Rande Gerber.  In the bedroom: Moroccan rugs, embroidered bed covers.  True comfort and sophistication.

Ralph Lauren’s bedroom at his Montauk retreat features a teak bed with Ralph Lauren Home Madras cotton bed curtains. This room has a tranquil, tropical feel.

Donatella Versace’s Milan bedroom features a Julian Schnabel metal bed and black lacquer side table. Her style is both classic and modern, a true eclectic design.

Love this bedroom owned by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell.  She used soft muted tones in her bedroom oasis.  On the bed: an antique suzani.  Rugs by Madeline Weinrib.

Cheryl Crow Goes Deep

Cheryl Crow’s unique Spanish colonial hacienda is a feast for the artistic eye…and heart. She purchased the 11 acre estate in 1997, when she was fresh off the success of her first two albums. The estate sits nestled in the Hollywood hills, a landscape with three homes, and a few tree houses to boot. She now shares her home with her two young sons, Wyatt and Levy.

When she first moved in, she lived with almost no furniture for a year, giving Crow “a feel for airy spaces, poetic light.” Slowly, “she began to fill the rooms herself, piece by piece, taking a highly personal, richly layered approach to interior design.”

“This is an incredibly magical place. It has the best of everything California has to offer, but there’s also something deeper. The land has a fascinating energy.” – Cheryl Crow

“I wanted to get away from using heavy drapes and keep the place light,” says Crow.

“I’m a collector of oddities, stuff that is somehow off-center or off-kilter, things that have their own inner lives and implore you to use your imagination.” – Cheryl Crow

Ray Azoulay, owner of Obsolete, a Venice, California boutique, says of Crow: “There’s a fearlessness and a bit of irreverence in her style, but that’s what makes it so refreshing.”

“There are a lot of people who think of me as very straight, very middle America and conventional, so I imagine this place will come as a surprise. I’d hope it would make them think, I need to get to know this person better.”

We agree.
